Daily Blogger 3/26/14

It's a very warm day today, the warmest day of the week so far. I can't believe that we are so close to summer. Only 8 more weeks!! Track season is going good and I think the girls team can go undefeated again this year. Our first track meet is in April and I'm really excited.

Today in English we are writing our favorite place in Nebraska poem. First we had to write an essay about the place then we had to pick words or phrases to take out and put in our poem. My poem is about Beemer, Nebraska. I chose that place because it's where all my family is and it's where I usually go on the weekends. On friday the our teachers are going to choose four poems to enter into a contest that some people are putting on. The people who win the contest get to go to the capital in Lincoln and have a celebration.

All in all I can see this week being very good in English class. Now it's time to enjoy the weather and inch towards summer. We are finishing out the school year but we have to finish out strong.

Nebraska poem

The Rancho
By Jose Ponce
The ranch where I work is my favorite place to be
The place that taught me what I’m today, a hard
Workingman who would have know that a small
Ranch located in the northern part of Holt County
Nebraska would teach me such passion and love
Toward the animals and outdoors.

Me a young boy that grew up in that grew up in the
Ghetto parts of Las Vegas NE, but one day moved to
O’Neill NE and love what he saw but, what he really love
Was where he worked. Here the sound of the police sirens turned to a
Quiet breeze in the air and the traffic honking turned to
The cows mooing.

And this is why this place in Nebraska is my personal
Favorite because it help me enjoy the outdoor
And learn learn new things, things that would
Have never learned if I were in vegas.

Daily Blogger

Today I'm daily blogger. It wasn't just a day at OHS it was friday. I like fridays because it is almost the weekend. The weekend means a lot to me because then I can spend time with my family and friends.

Today in english class we had to write a poem that was due at the end of class. I really don't understand poems. But this one about my favorite place in Nebraska. My favorite place was Memorial Stadium because I'm a BIG Husker fan. Most people like other things in Nebraska but my is Nebraska Football. Writing is not my favorite thing but it has to be done. In math class we are getting ready for NESA. We are learning things we already know.

I was daily blogger today and now its almost over and I can't wait till the weekend. So have a good weekend!!!!!

Congrats to Wyatt... State level winner in "Letters about Literature" writing contest!

We have just been notified that Wyatt Liewer is one of two winners in the Nebraska division of the national "Letters About Literature" writing contest.  The competition was tough this year as there were more entries than ever before!  Wyatt will be recognized at a special recognition day on Wed., April 9 in Lincoln.  The day will begin at the Capitol with the Governor's Proclamation Signing, followed by a noon luncheon and the presentation of the winning letters to the Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors. Congratulations, Wyatt!

Dailey Blogger, March 17

As I walked through the glimmering doors of OHS High School, a different sight presented its self to me. Not red, not blue, but green. Then the thought smacked me on the side of the head like a brick. It’s St. Patrick’s Day! Luckily my outfit consisted of a green shirt, which, in the future, would save me from over 50 pinches and possibly a kiss. Today is a great day to be Dailey blogger. After putting my bags in my locker I meandered down the hall to the lunchroom to hear the Dailey gossip. Today’s gossip was very slim for a first, normally I’m used to getting loaded with it on a Monday, but today it was different. I am looking forward to the St. Pat’s weekend and all the fun activates.
Today for English we are presenting our speeches. As everyone may know girls are kind of wussies, so Aurora backed out of going first and Shayne, being the man he is, took her place. I figured listening to these speeches would be easy and I would just have to listen, then Mrs. Morrow handed out a sheet of paper. On this paper we have to write what each speaker did well, one thing you learned, and one thing they could improve on. This is a good thing to do because we can hear our peer’s feedback on our speech. I think Shayne did an amazing job kicking off the next few days of giving speeches. Next Aurora presented. I would have to say out of the two presented they were both really good. I am looking forward to the next few days and hearing everyone’s speeches.
Some people aren’t wearing a piece of green, but for all we know they might be wearing green underwear or even have green snot stain on their sleeve. You better have some green showing or else there will be a painful pinch from Wyatt lurking in the hall way. Rapping up this Dailey blogger entry I must tell you, kiss me im Irish!

Daily Blogger!! :)

I was rudely awaked this morning at 6:40 a.m. After staying up till midnight to work on our three Ixl’s that were due in Ms. Kester’s algebra class, I was very crabby this morning. I trudged into the school at exactly 7:45 a.m. and walked down to civics class with Mr. Hesse. We had a substitute and we played current events when is just asking questions about the world today. In English we went through a total check-list of everything we needed to have done by Monday. Your speech needed to be done today with you bibliography and we started working on our note cards. That is pretty much all we needed done plus your 5 slide visual aid is due today so get all these things done and be ready to present your speeches in the following week. Have a great Friday!

Daily Blogger 3-13-14

I groggily turned over to turn off my alarm this morning I remembered with sleepy horror that today I was the daily blogger. When I got to school I remembered two very important things that would be taking place today: one, we would be having a lockdown drill, and two, there would be an assembly held at 9:00 (exactly 15 minutes into English class…Bonus!).
In first period science we reviewed our notes and then went on to studying rocks on socrative. Then to English! As I walked through the hallway and into English class I set down my stuff and waited for Mr. Broz to dismiss us to go to the assembly. After 10 quick minutes of chatting with my friends finally we heard the ding of the intercom and we were released into the gym. When we got to the gym the speaker was a lady who’s daughter was cyber bullied and died. She talked about the story and told us what happened, then she showed us a video of the Dr. Phil show that they did. It was a very good and informative assembly and very touching.

The only thing to remember for English class is to cite your sources. Because of the speaker we didn’t have English class today. Today was a good day!

Today is not the best day for me to be daily blogger because I am really busy with schoolwork. This morning at about 8:15 we were told to open up our computers and as soon as the screen brightened my daily blogger alarm popped up. I just hit snooze like I do on my wake up alarm every morning. This morning we had a speaker come to our school to talk to us about bullying. She did a really good job and it was an awesome opportunity to get to listen to her.
After the speaker was done we went to our forth-period class. We only had about 25 minutes of that class due to the speaker. After that class it was time for English. When we got into the room we started on DGP right away. Today was an easy day for DGP because we just had to write the sentence in right. After DGP we watched a video about slideshows. The video taught us what not to do when you make slideshows. When the video was over we had time to work on are words cited. Overall it has been a good day!

Daily Blogger 3-11-14

As I approached the early hour of 6:30 I noticed that it look like it was still night outside! It looked like the sun was just shot off for the morning and was taking it’s own little nap. It’s going to take a while to get used to that time change. At least everyone looked forward to the 11:30 dismissal since the Speech Meet would be going on!
In English first we did our DGP (Daily Grammar Practice). After that we printed off our Persuasive Essays and did everything that was on the checklist. After we handed those in we discussed with our CBL groups about what we need to do before the deadline for our CBL video. Don’t forget to keep working with your CBL group to make your video for your solution. It’s due next Monday! We’ve worked so hard on those so far so keep on going and don’t give up. We’ve learned so much from each other about how we can change the world with our writing. Don’t give up even if it seems tough! Don’t forget to read to page 350 in “The Book Thief” by tomorrow for reading! I hope everyone has a great week and don’t give up!
Get some sleep and take this week out with a boom!

Daily blogger, March 5

Today is the start of spring break. We get out at 1:30! I’m going to go home and hang out with my nephew. The best part is I get to sleep in for a couple of days. I’ve been watching the clock hoping that it would go faster. In English class we finally mailed our letters to the newspapers. After that some worked on our speech or our CBL projects that are due in a few days. Some have some cool stuff on their CBL. I can’t wait till 1:30

Sincerely, Blake

Ughhh! I had to wake up this morning 50 minutes earlier than normal because it is Ash Wednesday, which starts Lent in the Catholic Church. We had to leave a little early to get to school on time. In first period Civics, we took a five-question quiz and then read through some notes. It was a pretty boring first 49 minutes of the day. I’m glad that the bells are back to normal so we know when to leave class now.
Today is the second straight day that we don’t have Mrs. Morrow in class. We did Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in Daily Grammar Practice in only a few minutes. I feel like our whole class is getting much better at DGP. Mrs. Troester showed us what we should put in each paragraph for our persuasive speech. I am doing my speech on whether or not college athletes should be paid money or not. The rest of the period everyone went silent and worked on their rough draft which is due Monday.
Tonight I will be watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers take on the Indiana Hoosiers in a B1G basketball game. Other than that tonight will be a pretty boring night. I know many people are going skiing this weekend so stay safe and don’t run into any trees. Have a great spring break and stay classy OHS.

3-3-14

-16 degrees, reads the thermometer. The usually norm it seems this time of year. O well I thought, no better way to warm your spirit then a Monday morning dose of English Class!
To kick off the exhilarating 2nd period class we determined the parts of speech from this sentence, “ah depreciate other persons dinners you ministers give such splendid ones”. Yeah!... Next we got out our persuasive speech notes and had Mrs. Morrow go around and check to see that everybody completed them on time. And may they forever live a life of misery, depression, and suffering if they didn’t! After the torturing had been dealt Mrs. Morrow explained to us what a thesis statement is, (claim + three main points) and showed us some examples of it. Shortly after, at 9:30, a group of kids went to the elementary to present some 6th graders their CBL projects. As for my group’s progress, we had the privilege of haling a 30lb trash bag of paper through a parking lot in the -16 degree weather, just to watch our recycling bin drive off down the street… Don’t forget, thesis statements are due tomorrow, and may you burn in the underworld for eternity if you don’t get it done!
There is always a sliver lining though, and this time it’s spring break. I, like many of the other students, am looking forward to a quicker end to the suffering we all endure, every single week. But wait! All of you must enjoy this long weekend, hence for some of you, the worst is yet to come! With Saint Patrick’s Day fast approaching, there also comes the fast approach of the track & field season. For some of you, this will be painful. For me, as many of you know, I disagree.
Whether you dislike track & field, or love finding the verb’s in ancient English writing text, I think we can all agree that it sure is cold out there, and a long weekend is extremely needed.
Stay warm OHS!

Jared H. Daily Blogger 2/14/14

When you think of February 14, you tend to think of love and chocolates. I think of daily blogger and district wrestling. I hope this is the year that the O’Neill Eagles are going to win districts and state. We have ten qualifiers that are going to state this year. We are really hoping to bring home the gold. We didn’t have class today so that was a plus.
The assignment for the day was nothing because there was no class. The day started out with me riding down to Burwell to watch the wrestlers. We had a few district champs. Blake Walters was wrestling for 1st and 2nd, but he got taken down at the last few seconds. He ended up with second so he still gets to go to state.

Over all the team did great and they won Class C District 2. Let’s hope that they can bring home the gold at state. Don’t forget to go cheer the Eagles on at the Quest Center in Omaha. The nice thing about the Quest Center is that there is a hotel attached to it so you don’t even have to step outside to get to the arena. I hope to see you all at state!
