A new school year is underway!

by Mrs. Morrow

The 2013-2014 school year is underway and in full swing already after just two weeks of classes.  English 8 students have been working diligently on a variety of projects that will set the foundation for a year's worth of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

The first day of school was kick-started with some Rebecca Stockley Improv games.  Out in the August Nebraska heat we learned how to trust in each other, commit to new ideas quickly, and adapt when needed.

We launched a project based on our unique "personal brand:" who we are and what we want to be known for.  To demonstrate our thinking and we each created several projects including a personal brand statement, an avatar, an individual blog, and a personal brand video.  Now we are certain our web presence will have a positive start to that digital footprint that can define us.

In addition, our class was chosen to assist Mrs. Joan Carraher, superintendent from Cedar Rapids Schools, to be a part of her doctoral research on the impact of 1:1 learning for student efficacy.  We completed surveys and several of us will be part of focus group interviews in the near future.

We have so much exciting work ahead of us to look forward to and we can't wait to put our writing in practice on this blog.  Tune back in often to visit the chronicles of another amazing group of students and their writing journey in English 8.
