To say that April 15 is a bad day is an understatement. Not
only did the Titanic sink and more than 1,500 people died in 1912, but also
there were many other catastrophic events that took place on this dreadful day.
In 1989, 95 people were crushed to death in Sheffield Soccer Stadium in
England. A disastrous earthquake
took place on Montenegro coast in 1979. On this day Abraham Lincoln died in 1865. 43 people died when two express trains
collided head-on south of Bologna, Italy in 1978. Also, a fire swept through a
campsite of Muslims making the Hajj pilgrimage in 1997. The official death toll
was 343. In 2002, an Air China Boeing 767-200, flight CA129, crashed into a
hillside during heavy rain and fog near Busan, South Korea, killing 128 people.
More recently, in 2010, volcanic ash from the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in
Iceland led to closure of airspace over most of Europe. Today is also the first
year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. 3 people were killed and 183
were injured.
As
I wandered aimlessly in the hallways this morning, I noticed everyone was in
their track sweats and ready to take on Boone Central this afternoon. Not like
normal mornings, I went to Mrs. Troester’s room for Nesa Testing. Yay!:( I
don’t know about everyone else, but I hate testing especially now since we can’t
have gum or water. The state doesn’t understand what it’s like to take tests
for three hours with minimum breaks and not have water to quench our thirst. So
far the worse thing that has happened was our computers didn’t cooperate to set
up our testing. Eventually we got them ready and started testing. The testing
was over math and had two sessions. Due to testing, we missed our 1st
through 3rd period classes. We also have a JH track meet later in
the day. We depart from the school at 12:30 or 12:45ish. The meet is in Albion
and doesn’t start till 3. Mrs. Hostert says it’s going to be cold and long. On
the paper it said that running doesn’t start till 5:30, so it will be a long
day. I think we will be taking one bus.
Will
all the bad things that have happened on this day, it’s not a surprise that Mr.
Morrow, aka the MLB Pitcher in the hall of fame, was born on this day. Daily Blogger was really easy today because we
didn’t have English, but nonetheless we still had an eventful day. So before I wrote this we had our track meet, but I recently just heard that if was postponed to Tuesday. Tuesday is the O'Neill meet, so that's that. On the bright side however, we have a 2:30 dismissal.
