4-19-12 State Wrestling

School spirit and anticipation filled the OHS hallways this morning. Tomorrow is State Wrestling, which is much anticipated. Later, we will salute them off and wish them good luck in Omaha. The whole student body was crossing their fingers hoping that we wouldn’t have school tomorrow. This week is FFA week and today was farmer/rancher dress-up day. To no one’s surprise, Aurora placed as usual with her overalls, hat, and boots.
Water squirting and laughter filled Mr. Hesse’s civics class this morning. Right off the bat, we got our tests about the Nebraska Unicameral back. Some faces were disappointed, and others, like mine, were very surprised at how good we did. Mr. Hesse likes to spring tests on us. “Oh, and by the way you have a test tomorrow over this.” These words are his favorite. We then got our Upfront’s passed out and read a few small articles and then read the big one about Edward Snowden. Sadly, Mr. Hesse handed out a front and back worksheet over what we read. It was pretty easy and we almost all got it done before class was over. Right before the bell rang, Mr. Brosz walked in and said he had an important message. Very surprisingly he gave Justin the student of the week award. We were all in shock. I mean, what has he done to get that? Once he said that he got it for the spelling bee it all made sense.
After I lugged my huge backpack to English, I noticed that we were missing a lot of kids were missing. Blair clarified it for me and said that they had to go to court. They weren’t getting prosecuted, but just watching. I got out my DGP and journal next. In our journal, we wrote about one thing that surprised us about Kent Warneke’s tips and one tip that we think is most important. In our DGP, we had to identify clauses. I’ll include a picture that shows what we did. Then Mrs. Morrow read an expert from the New York Times Best-Selling Author, and Nebraska native, Mary Pipher. Her book was titled “Writing to Change the World and is about persuasive writing. The expert was about Pipher’s letter to save Spring Creek Prairie and one of her friend’s letter about a motor cross track. Pipher wrote that adding a personal connection and understanding both sides of the story really enhances a persuasive letter. After a small class discussion on the topic, Mrs. Morrow passed out our pre-write paper. We were instructed to fill them out and start writing out letter to one of the newspapers. No matter what, out letters are due Friday. Then another class discussion came out about our Patriotism iBook. We talked about hashtags. If you want extra-credit, you can post something about on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, ect. Just screenshot it and turn it in on Blackboard. Make sure your post has either #supportourtroops, or #ohsibooks. Help out troops out and get more people to buy the book! Then the bell rang  and we rushed out of the room to our next class.
As it turned out, we do have school tomorrow.:( There’s a rumor going around that over 100 predestines were given out by Mrs. Price. Since there weren't enough kids to take a big bus, the kids who signed up and got their money paid got to go and take a small bus. They were given predestines. Most of them were in JH. They will have to leave at 5:30, but I'm sure it's worth it. I’m kinda happy we do have school though, because I’d rather have school now, then at the end of school. A lot of kids are going to be gone, so maybe we won’t have that much homework in our classes. The pep rally got the whole school pumped and excited for tomorrow. Best of luck to the O’Neill wrestlers competing at State, bring home first!

Make sure you fill in your DGP!

Retweeting this tweet can get you extra credit and help get our word out!!

Empty seats in our English class and Justin being his usual self.
