Friday Dec. 20

     Today is the day that we have all been waiting for, the only day in the middle school year with no homework and a two week weekend. Finally, it is Christmas break! We through a party in Mr. Hesse's class, with a gift exchange and played charades. I got a gift from Wyatt; a box of peanut M&M's a big candy cane and a bag of Chex Mix. We had a blast! In math, however, we had to take an review quiz (which I thought it was a joke come on people it is almost Christmas!). In reading we had to take a test but the lack of excitement was made up by funny video that Shayne, Wyatt, and Justin (Youtube worthy). We also watched the end of The Outsiders. In English, we finished our type drawing project for the Bronx Masquerade. We watched the Chad Dean's Semi Annual Youtube Playlist, with lots of Christmas music. Now that the day is come to end with a of a long weekend ahead

Today when I walked through the doors of O’Neill High School I remembered that there was only one more day until Christmas break. I walked in and set my things down in Mr. Hesse’s classroom and went to go eat breakfast. The bell rang and I had to walk back through the caotic halls filled with people. We had a short 12 problem test and then planning for our party the next day, for tomorrow was the last day of school until Christmas break started! It was also Jaiden’s last day at OHS. Our planning comitee I’m sure will do a great job for our party with lots of delicious treats and fun games!

           In English as we all got settled Mrs. Troester announced that we will be doing an activity on the iPad called type drawing. We made the type drawing over one character in the book we’ve been reading over the past could weeks and one piece of their poem that they’ve written that we liked the most. I made mine over Chankara and the poem piece I picked out was called “Bruised Love”. I drew Chankara with big muscles and strong going around her and getting bigger while bruised love is getting smaller because she is stronger that getting beat by her boyfriend. I really like working with the iPads and learning new things about them. That activity took about the whole class period.

            Overall the day has been pretty good. I’m just trying to finish everything before break, so I can stay up to date and can be ready for Christmas break with no homework. In reading class my friends and I got some shirts from our church. Our grade was the one to make the t-shirts! English was fun today because we had no homework and messed around on the iPads. Hopefully I don’t have to do daily blogger again! Thank goodness I’m done with it for the year of 2013! Merry Christmas!

Well I was the daily blogger for Dec. 3. I was gone the day that I was assigned and didn’t know I was the blogger. It’s a long time from when it was Dec. 3 so I’m going to write about today.  

Today in English we are working on our daily blogs and our type drawings. It’s a mad house everyone’s taking other ipads that doesn’t have their project on it. Then were having problem sending them through the ipads. I still haven’t found mine.

It’s the last day until break. Were all excited to leave and hang out with our family. I get to see my cousins from Omaha this year. My favorite thing besides the presents of course is the amazing food. I hope you guys don’t get to fat while at break.

Today I am the daily blogger. It isn’t so bad because it is the last day before Christmas break! Yay!! Tonight the JH girls have a basketball game at Battle Creek! Lets hope we win! Today in English class we had to hand in or fix the homework assignment evidence of learning. Then we had to hand in our type drawing. If our email wasn’t set up on the I Pad we had to got o settings and do that. It wasn’t too hard. We had to email it to Mrs. Morrow and mrsmorrow@me.com. After all of that the people who hadn’t done their daily blogger had to make it up. Today was pretty much a free for all. That is what we did today for English. Hope everyone has a great Christmas break!

Today during English class we had time to do our evidence of learning and do the type drawing stuff on the I-Pads or do the daily blogger if you did not do it for which I am doing right now. Today is the final day of school until Christmas break I bet everyone can’t wait me neither. I hope everyone has fun on their vacation.

            Today as I ventured into O’Neill High School I caught a whiff of peppermint candy canes and stale Christmas sweaters that probably haven’t been worn since last year. One thing is for sure though: it is the last day until the long awaited Christmas Break! Everyone seems to be in a good mood today especially since we entered our first period classroom and Mr. Morrow had donuts waiting for us. Those donuts were delicious. We spent the rest of the class playing games, viewing iBook Author projects, and eating food! Overall it was a great first period mostly because of the food and the fact that Mr. Morrow didn’t make us do anything except for chitchat, which we all know the class of 2018 loves to do.

            Then we headed down the long hallway to the usually dreaded English class. Today nobody dreaded it though because we got to use the app TypeDrawing. This app lets you draw with words. It is a very fun and creative app. Wyatt had a very cool design. He used Devon and had an eyeball with a basketball inside. I really liked it and then he was nice enough to come over and help me draw mine. I struggle with artistic things sometimes and today was one of those times. Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Troester were trying to make this day as much of a fun day as possible, which I am really thankful for because almost everybody is already ready to leave school for the holidays.

            Today has been a great day so far. Surprisingly and I know this may shock you all, but English class may be the best class of the day only because we had a lot of fun and had absolutely no homework. Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Troester were super-awesome today and let everyone catch up their work if they needed to. They are two of the most reasonable teachers in the world. If someone asked me who my favorite teachers were I would have to say either Mrs. Morrow or Mrs. Troester. They made this Christmas edition of English class awesome and I am glad I got to use the app TypeDrawing. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Jingle bells, jingle bells every kid is out of school!

Shelby Daily Blogger Monday 16, 2013

Boredom fills the room as I walk in the room to our science class drowsy as ever. Everyone dreads Mondays, or at least everyone I know. Even some of the teachers are lethargic from the two-day break. But today I’m actually kind of excited for school because the JH girls have a big basket ball game tonight. The only bad thing about it is that we have to take a long two-hour journey to Valentine, or as Mr. Hostert calls it, the home of the badgers.

After the dreaded first period on this Monday morning we went to a little less dreaded second period class, which is English. Well to start off the day in English we write a brand new poem, a first and last lines poem. In this poem we take the first line of a book or piece of writing, and the last line of another. The best part about this poem is that we get to make up a whole new story in between the two mismatched lines. For the second part of English we listened to some more of the book we’re reading, Bronx Masquerade. Being honest this is the part I look forward to the most during English because I like to hear the different voices and the different point of views and the stories each individual person tells. Whilst listening to the book the bell rang, so I guess that’s all we did in English today.

         December 19th, last full day of school before Christmas Break! Sadly I'm the daily blogger today. It has been a pretty fun day so far. In first period I had history. We planed all the things that we would do at our party tomorrow. Then I came to English Class. We finished our book Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes. We only had two more pages to read. Next we handed in our evidence of learning for poetry.

We did an iPad activity which included poems from the book we finished. We saw some examples of what we were going to do. They showed the symbolism in the poems giving us ideas. We choose our favorite poems from the book and then we drew sticks to see who got to choose their poem first. We got our iPads and got to work.


     The next class of the day was reading. We had read the book The Outsiders so we are watching the movie now. The rest of the day was full of test and handing in papers. Its just that end of the semester rush.

12-18-13

   As I approached the door of the sparkling school full of bright minds, I knew today would be a great day! I was walking into Reading first period today and I remembered that we were going to be watching The Outsiders   which we had read earlier this year. In English class we found out that Mrs. Morrow made a mistake! As she got onto her plane and opened her computer she found the CD we needed to listen to The Bronx Masquerade! Mrs. Troester did a great voice of Tyrone though!

 As we proceeded on with class Mrs. Troester presented us with the chart we had to fill out about our poems. To get to that chart go to Blackboard then click on English 8 then go to content. Then scroll down and click on Poetry Unit. Then meander down the page and click on Poetry Publishing- Evidence of Learning. Make sure you have all six of your poems posted onto your blog. Then follow the directions that are on the page. The more examples of each you have the more points you can earn. So make sure you have that filled out for class tomorrow because we will then print them out and hand them in. Also at the bottom it says to visit the lists of all of our classmates' blogs, so make sure you comment on a few of them!

 When I found out that we were walking the track for PE, I knew that was a great way to end the day. As we walked out into the bright sun, we became pumped up for another day of English tomorrow!

            Daily Blogger. That is one word, no mark that two, that I hate when my name is associated with those deadly words. If you didn’t already know, the O’Neill Eagles boys and girls varsity basketball teams lost last night to the Pierce Bluejays. I would know because I listened to it on the top dog radio station, the one and only KBRX. Mr. Hesse’s class, well let’s just say that it was a lackadaisical period because we took a test over Australia and New Zealand and that took a lifetime to finish because there were 12 locations that you had to know. Haha, that was a little bit of sarcasm that I just told you. Well the rest of the class period we just did other homework and listened to music or in the case of C.J. played games.

            In English class, we added the library printer and deleted all of the old ones. Next, we went to blackboard and downloaded the poetry-publishing notebook. You had to put down all the literary elements in all of your poems so that the teachers can grade them. That took almost all class and Mrs. Troester read Bronx Masquerade to us because Mrs. Morrow made a mistake and left the disc of the book in her computer while she is on a flight to another city. Barely anyone listened because they were all doing their poetry-publishing notebook. This is about all we did for English class.

Overall, it was a pretty illustrious day of school. Everybody is excited for Christmas break, which is only forty-eight hours away. They are all trying to be nice so Santa Claus gets them what was on their list. People are also getting excited for Wednesday night church too, which will be the last one before Christmas. I am going to pray over the break that I never have to be those two words with the initials DB

Today in English class we did an object that could be anything and we had to write about it. And those are due tomorrow. And we read about  Bronx Masquerade. And in ss we took are geo terms quiz. And are 5 themes project is due today also. And also we have are weekly geo quiz tommow. So homework is study for the geo quiz. And post all 6 poems to your blog.

Daily Blogger 12-17-13 Daisy Acevedo

       The sound of the first 7:55 bell rand loudly telling students to go to their first period class. As you get to your first period class you don't like the sound of teacher's assigning you homework.

       In English we worked on our point of view poems that we have to get done before tomorrow. As we opened our computers to write our point of view poems, I realized that poetry isn't what we expected but every writer needs to know how to write one. When I copied and pasted the information into my poetry unit notebook I underwayed writing like a cheetah. Tomorrow we needed to finish all of our six poems we did this week and last week, if you are done with all of your poems you need to post them all to your blog.

      In Geography, Mr. Hesse handed out our Australia and New Zealand maps, we had to fill out all the countries, islands, landforms, cities, and the bodies of water. When you are done filling out all those things, you NEED to study for the test tomorrow, I wish you good luck.

      In case you didn't know the Elementary school's Christmas Program is today, so guide your parents into coming to the program! Any ways have a good day everybody!

Daily Blogger 12-17-13: Aurora Gutshall

Tuesday; one of the busiest days of this week as everyone at OHS is just impatiently waiting for Christmas break to arrive. When I woke up, the memory of last night’s victory was fresh in my mind, and a smile crept to my face. As I laid in bed, all of the other things like my big project due today and our big unit test in reading came back into my thoughts like a slap in the face. Oh yeah, and I’m daily blogger, too.

When the bell rang marking the end of first period, I scurried to English class with  Gabbie and grabbed our journal box on my way through the door. Immediately as I sat down, I glanced at the board and saw that we were in for a busy da

y. The first thing Mrs. Morrow said was that I was daily blogger, and so I unzipped my computer bag and began to write. She continued on saying that if you haven’t posted a blog post yet, you need to get one posted of a day this week before you leave for break! After she was finished informing us about the blog, Mrs. Morrow told us to go to Blackboard and into the Poetry Unit folder, and there was a file in there that said Point of View Poem. You can’t open it, but you are just supposed to copy the text written under it into your Poetry Notebook document in a new tab because there wasn’t one made for this poem. The idea of the poem is to choose an inanimate object and write about how it would feel to be that object. I chose the first thing that popped into my head, or more like onto it: a bobby pin. Anyway, after you get finished writing your poem, you are supposed to post it to your blog. When we got all the instructions about our poems, Shayne called out, “How long does it have to be?” Mrs. Morrow told us the story of how she was in school, her principal (who was also a nun in the Catholic Church) would announce a saying when one of the students would ask her this same question. “A piece of writing is like a girl’s skirt- long enough to cover the subject, and short enough to be interesting.” All the guys got a kick out of that. We had some work-time for our poems, but at about 9:30, we put them aside and oped up our Bronx Masquerade book and continued reading.

Even though Mrs. Troester was gone today, all went well in 2nd period English class. We got all the things done that we needed to, and more. Good luck tonight to the basketball team as they head over to Pierce to battle for the win. Also, after today, we only have 3 more days till break, so Happy Holidays!

Daily Blogger!!! :) 12-16-13

             6:30a.m. Already, it seemed like I just fell asleep. I rolled out of bed to a brand new Monday. I really don’t like Mondays, but I am daily blogger so I can’t skip today. I walked into school at 7:50 a.m. I trudged into Mr. Hesse’s room and I forgot I had to re-take my Africa test today. That did not turn out great because I forgot to study. Then on top of that we had an assignment out of the book on Africa.

            Fourth period the one most people dread, is English, which I happen to like. In English class today we wrote a brand new poem. Our first and last lines poem was all about taking the first and last lines of a chapter of your independent novel and filling in the middle to make a poem. Also we read the Bronx Mascarrade, which is my favorite thing to do in English, and yes Tyrone had a lot to say in the few chapters we read.

            There is a long road trip ahead for the JH girls basketball players tonight. We will all be going to Valentine to battle the badgers in a basket ball game. Good Luck and Go Eagles!!!

Gabbie S. 12-12-13

Walking in the freezing cold weather isn't the most fun thing to do, especially when it's only 25 degrees. Sam and I raced into the building and we were welcomed with warm air. Groans and complaints were flying all over the school saying, "I don't want to be here!" or "Why can't school be over with?" When I strode into my first period class, a grin was plastered on Marissa's face. I have no clue how she can be so cheerful in the morning. Mr. Morrow gave us a puzzle worksheet for an assignment. This was the start of my Thursday morning.

The sweet sound of the bell rang sending me off to second period English finding first period's box on the table, again. I grabbed first period's box, put it back, and grabbed my period's box. I started to take out my journal, but Mrs. Morrow said that we were going to watch a video instead. The media included a woman reciting a poem, comparing her childhood to her brothers' childhood. My favorite part of the poem was when she put a glass on her wall to listen to her brothers in the other room. After listening to the humorous poem, Mrs. Morrow told us about what she, Trevor, and Jared did yesterday. We learned more about cyber safety and how a special type of investigator can look at your cellphone and see if you have done anything wrong or bad on it. Do you know the application, snapchat? You can only see the picture your friend sees you for a certain amount of time unless you screenshot it, but this special investigator can see those pictures you send for as long as he or she wants. After hearing about some of the scary types of things that can happen, we read Bronx Masquerade for the rest of the class. The book is filled with poetry and stories from students that are involved in the "Open Mike Fridays."

This was an adequate recap of Thursday's second period English class. It was very interesting learning more about cyber safety. The junior high girls have a basketball game and the junior high boys have a wrestling meet, also. It's time to say goodbye! This wraps up my blog post, and I hope you liked it!

     Today it is Friday! This morning I got a book at the book fair. My books name is "The Lucky One" can not wait till I get the chance to read it. I have never seen the movie and don't tell me what happens in the movie. Good job JH Basketball Girls.
      In English we did journal time, than we did corrections on LAL. Second you printed your LAL after you did your corrections. Third you signed the bottom and handed it in but DO NOT staple your paper together. Now we are writing another poem!! This poem is about "My name is" so if you go to your Poetry Unit and find Name poem. Use words that describe you and I forgot to say that you go to this web sit- tinyurl/5starsvote -when you go to this web sit go to the bottom and highlight the 5 stars and that is all we did in English.

Have you ever heard stories behind Friday the 13th? It's considered an unlucky day,and that day is today. Things haven't been turning out badly though. In first period kids received colorful candy canes,not just the peppermint ones. You could hear the whispers of "who's is from?" and people asking about the anonymous ones. The only part I'd consider unlucky would be the fact that I was picked for daily blogger.
                 In English we were given a few minutes for Free Write Friday,which of course no one wanted to share. After that was finished we got back the LAL's(Letters about Literature) we wrote. Everyone looked over the feedback they had gotten and improved their piece. Mrs. Morrow helped us set up the new printer to print off the finished product. Once everyone's was handed in we were given time to work on another poem. It's about our names,not our real names,but who we are. They're due,posted to our blogs, on Monday. That wrapped up class. Every morning I walk through the chilly hallway as I moan of tiredness. There's nothing that can make my day worse than having to wake up in the morning, but once I walked in the English room the bomb hits me.. I'm daily blogger!

As I walked into the English room, the bell rung and Mrs. Troester told us to get our Journals, we wrote about how our thoughts on poetry have changed since we started our lesson on it Monday, my thoughts really hadn't changed because I've always thought that poetry is a way to express yourself to the world. We also had to write about what we have learned through all this process of learning.  After that we watched a video that was written by a guy that was an English teacher and after that he became a professional poet and wrote a poem about him not wanting to be unprepared for class as the teacher told them, he asked a girl in his class if she could possibly let him borrow a pen she had lots of them and she made a huge deal about them so he decided to just go to class unprepared!

We also read a poem by William Carlos Williams that was called This is Just To Say then we had to write our own #SorryNotSorry poem, then we made sure we posted our Symbol poem and our #SorryNotSorry poem to our blogs!

This is the resume of my day in English class and over all! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as i disliked writting it! Hope you have a nice next rest of the day!

Think before you post. Who will see it and what are you posting? This are some things we talked about at the Nebraska Digital Citizenship Symposium. What we talked about is that people can always see what you are doing on the internet and you are being tracked at all times. We talked about several other topics such as the digital footprint. Everything you do on the internet can not be erased and will never disappear.

Another topic we talked about was cyber bullying. Some reasons why people bully is because they feel like they are bigger than that other person. We talked about how you treat some one online would you treat them the same way offline? There are different consequences such as 28-310: Assault in the Third degree. If he/she causes bodily damage you can get charged with that 28-310. 

12-11-13 Jaden Ruleaux

When I walked through the school doors this morning the halls were silent and empty.  Just another cold, winter day.  Tomorrow we have a test on Africa in first period world geography so we spent the whole class studying.  Then walking into Mrs. Troester's room you could smell the air freshener instantly.  Like everyday I put my stuff by my desk and walked around the halls until the bell rang.

Mrs. Morrow was gone so Mrs. Troester taught the class.  We started off watching a video of a guy reading a poem about borrowing pens from girls.  After that we got out our journals and wrote a paragraph about how our view of poetry changed since last week and what we learned about writing poetry.  She handed out a piece of paper with a poem about basketball on it.  We read it aloud then highlighted or underlined the strong verbs that gave us good images.

We listened to a podcast with a few different "This is just to say" poems and wrote our own.  After reading three out loud we posted them on our blogs, along with our symbol poems.  Because we were behind in Bronx Masquerade we read that for the rest of the period.  If you were gone you didn't miss a whole lot.  Just make sure you have a "This is just to say poem" done and posted on your blog.

Daily Blogger December 9th, 2013 Briaunna Parks

Well, Today I am daily blogger. It is a Monday so it is not the best day to have to be daily blogger. It was one of those mornings for me that I got up late, it was a cold dark morning, and just the thought of school made me want to sleep more. I felt that way until I remembered that it was game day! The thought of that seemed to brighten up the morning.

My first period class is reading. Today in first period we handed in our book reviews and then went to the library to check out another book and look around at the book fair. That brightened my morning even more!  I found a book that I wanted to read but it was checked out of the library so Mrs. Braun told me that she would tell me when it is in. The bell rang while I was in the library so I trotted off to my next class, which was math.

After a couple more periods passed it was time for English. In English today instead of writing in our journals right away we took a survey about the writing exchange for Mrs. Troester. After we got done and handed the survey in we watched a video about the poem “Macavity.” Macavity is about a cat that never gets caught when it does something bad. After the video was over we read a couple more poems and the bell rang shortly after we got done.

Today has gone by fast! We got another study hall 8^th period but all I had for homework was math, and I had to finish this. I better go because it will soon be time to load up the bus to head to Ord for the JH A/B basketball games!

Nikki Gotschall - Daily Blogger 12/10/13

           It was just a regular average day in science class and I was working on my vocabulary when the computer calendar caught my eye. It’s the 10^th. Do you know what that means? It means I’m the daily blogger. Yippie! (not). I don’t like being daily blogger if you could tell. Anyways, since I have to do this thing, I better get down to business.

           The classroom was as dull as a piece of flimsy cardboard as I stumbled inside. I sat there, telling tootie and Emma about my new puppy, Bo, and how he wouldn’t let me sleep last night. That puppy is a siren that doesn’t have an off button! Anyway, It wasn’t fun. I just got done with my story when Mrs. Morrow starts reading off the announcements. After the announcements, we got started with English. We’re learning about poetry and figurative language. We did our daily journal and instead of writing with a pencil, we wrote on our poetry notebook on the computers. We filled out similes, metaphors, and personification. Then we each picked our favorite and shared it with the class.

            Once we all shared, we read a poem called “Indian Sky” by Alfred Kreymborg. Now we finally get to write our own symbol poems. We are supposed to think of a symbol that we had discussed in class. (Blizzard, teddy bear, fire, fruit bowl, a river, leaves falling from trees) I chose to do mine about fire. Fire can represent a lot of things. I could think of a whole bunch of meanings fire could have. We worked on those until our principal, Mr. Brosz, told us that the whole 8^thgrade was supposed to go to the lecture hall for a meeting. It was cool, because we got out of English early and we got to reading late!

            Just a reminder: we are watching “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” It starts at 7:30 sharp. Admission is roughly $3. JH only! There will be pop and popcorn provided. If you don’t want pop, you can bring a different drink. You can wear an ugly sweater because there will be an ugly sweater contest. Blankets and pillows are allowed. Well, that’s pretty much what happened in English class today; I hope to see you all in the multi purpose room for “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas!”
